Lucky seven

Adolescent tomatoI was out of town for the weekend, and got back too late last night to check in with the plants. Steve reported that the aforementioned tomato had grown, and several others had joined it.

“How many?” I asked.

“I’ll give you a kiss for each one,” he said.

Seven kisses later, I had my answer.

This evening, I got out there to see where things stood. The cucumber looked even better than it did at the end of last week—now it has little yellow flowers that will hopefully pollinate and bear fruit.

And if all goes well, we’re due for a bumper crop of tomatoes. The cherry tomato plants have developed tight little green balls where its flowers once were, and that baby Big Bertha tomato pictured above is now the size of a golf ball.

Over at the lavender plant, small bees worked on the blossoms, enjoying themselves in the warm sun.

Oh…sad day. Sad day. A rube, I am. But I’m still cooler than David Hasselhoff at the American Idol finale:

Oh, you boys and your discomfort with public displays of romance…

That being said, yes, Steve, you are much, much cooler than David Hasselhoff at the American Idol finale.
