Green Thumb Sunday: Why I am in a flower CSA

Wildflower bouquet

When I signed up for a fresh flower bouquet CSA program last spring, I thought it might feel a little extravagant. But, every week, when I go pick up my pre-paid bouquet at the farmer’s market, I realize once again how absolutely worth it this little extravagance happens to be. Gorgeous local flowers that survive almost until the following week, when more make their way into my house. How can I possibly beat that?

Gardeners, plant and nature lovers can join in Green Thumb Sunday every week. Visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Carol, I might do that at some point. Right now, it’s tough to invest the full effort, since I’m renting, but I will say…I really like the little pots of flowers I have going this year.

Mark, it’s definitely a pretty wonderful thing to have access to. Great stuff!

There’s a saying — and I won’t get this exactly right — that goes something like, “If you only have a dollar, spend fifty cents of it on flowers.”

Oh, what a lucky lady you are! I wish I had a flower CSA that I could join. That is one summer-y, happy bunch of flowers you’ve got!

Kalyn, I’m glad too, and I’m glad I took care of signing up for it before I even knew how my spring and early summer would shape up. It is a really wonderful treat.

Ruth, thanks so much for stopping by, and happy GTS to you, too!

Christa, I was wondering if there were any CSAs around DC that did a similar thing. I never saw one when I was there, but that may just have been because I wasn’t looking.

Crafty Gardener, it’s so nice to have them around. And because they’re so fresh, they pretty much last all week!

Sara, yes — it’s lovely, for sure. Thanks for stopping by!

Mr. BrownThumb, happy GTS as well. Thanks for the comment!

    Chigiy, you’re absolutely right.

Beth, I’ve never heard the saying before, but I really like that — so true!

Christina, if I ever move away from Iowa, I hope I can find a similar deal — it’s so nice to have that in place for the season.

I know I’m commenting on an old post, but I’ve been working my way from the very first one, and have been holding back comments since yesterday! You’re making me want to move to Iowa.. which would be quite a feat, seeing as how I live in Singapore. :p

Lianne, I’m so glad you stopped by! Thanks for reading all the way from Singapore, which is a place I would very much like to visit!
