Scott, well, it is an urban area, so I’m guessing it’s a matter of space. That being said, Oakland is not free from blight…not by a long shot…and it seems like there’s room to make some ugly, abandoned plots into gardens…

Anita, yep — I’m hoping. We’ll see what happens!

Eva, maps are really powerful tools. I learned that as a reporter, and again when I was working with police agencies using GIS to map crimes and discover patterns — it’s amazing what surfaces when you put everything out there to look at!
