Green Thumb Sunday: Watered, Kailua

snapdragons

When I shot these flowers on Oahu, I thought they were snapdragons, but they’re not. If you know what they are, I’d love to know via the comments!

Gardeners, plant and nature lovers can join in Green Thumb Sunday every week. Visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Looks like Japanese Honeysuckle to me.

I’m with Helen…they appear to be some sort of a honeysuckle, based on both the opposite leaves and the spidery flowers. It’s fun, isn’t it, when we go somewhere with flora unlike our own?

They are ….. pretty! A lot of help, I am. They do look like honeysuckle.

Agree. Looks like some type of honeysuckle – though not the type we have here in Arlington. Japanese is a good guess.

Another honeysuckle vote. I have a closeup photo of one that looks almost exactly like that, that’s busily swallowing my garden shed. That’s not a complaint – honeysuckle engulfing it from one side, hybrid musk roses on the other side, makes for a very nice garden shed.

Sounds like a resounding vote in favor of honeysuckle! (This is why I will never be a good gardener of flowers, I fear…my lack of identification skills don’t help anyone!) Thanks, everyone, for the ideas and thoughts. Much appreciated!

Agreed, it’s honeysuckle…considered a weed here in Tennessee, where it grows profusely along the roadside ditches! I love honeysuckle, it smells wonderful, and if you pull off the flower and pinch off the green flower base, pulling out the stamen, you’ll find honeysuckle nector, which I’ve consumed by the gallons since I was a kid!

Mmm Japanese Honeysuckle. No question. Smells great and the nectar is yummy!

Melisa, I used to drink that nectar as a kid, too, but haven’t for years!

Sparow, consider it confirmed. And yes — so yummy. :-)
