Coolest mantis photos ever

I was pretty pleased with my praying mantis photos back in September, but the photos taken by David Yager at the University of Maryland are truly stunning. Plus, he’s got access to varieties of mantises that I will probably never see in my lifetime. These are definitely worth checking out!

One note: the Washington Post site may require free registration to view this stuff. If so, I still highly recommend it. These are amazing images of one of the coolest bugs out there.

    WOW.

That flower one is so super cool and incredibly beautiful. Great pictures. They really seem to emit a personality, something higher than just a bug. Very dignified or something. Truly amazing.

Yes–WOW!! I’m a huge mantis fan, even had a “pet” mantis once that recognizedme and would run up to be fed.

Cole, the flower one was absolutely my favorite.

Sher, how cool is that! I wish our “pet” mantis had hung out a little longer, but I hope maybe…maybe…he planted some eggs in our garden. We’ll see…
